Bookmarks Manager

Privacy Policy for Bookmarks Manager Chrome Extension

Last Updated: September 2, 2026

Overview

Bookmarks Manager ("the Extension") is committed to protecting your privacy. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles your data when you use it with Google Chrome.

Information Collection and Use

What We Access

Search Engine Preference

  • The Extension stores one setting: the search engine you pick for the quick-access buttons (Google, Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, Baidu, or Yandex). Google is the default.
  • This preference is saved with Chrome's extension storage and follows your Chrome profile if you have Chrome sync enabled. It is never sent to our servers.
  • The Extension does not read your browsing history. Earlier versions (before 1.1.0) used the history permission to guess your search engine; that permission has been removed.

What We Do NOT Access

The Extension does NOT:

  • Access, read, or collect your Chrome bookmarks through the browser API
  • Read or track your browsing history or activity
  • Store any personal information
  • Transmit any browsing data to any server
  • Use cookies or tracking technologies within the extension itself

Data Storage

  • Local Only: All search engine detection happens locally in your browser
  • No Remote Storage: The Extension does not store or transmit any data to remote servers
  • No Analytics: We do not collect analytics or usage data from the Extension

Third-Party Services

Bookmarks Manager Web Application

The Extension displays an embedded iframe from bookmarks-manager.online where you manage your bookmarks. Please note:

  • Your bookmarks are stored and managed through the bookmarks-manager.online web application, which uses Firebase / Firestore for data storage
  • The bookmarks-manager.online service has its own privacy policy governing how your bookmarks data is handled
  • You must create an account at bookmarks-manager.online (via email/password or Google OAuth) to use the full functionality
  • All data entered into the bookmarks-manager.online dashboard is subject to that service's privacy policy

Permissions Explanation

Storage Permission

Used only to remember which search engine you chose for the quick-access buttons. This permission does not show a warning at install and gives the Extension no access to your browsing data.

Host Permission (bookmarks-manager.online)

Required to embed the Bookmarks Manager dashboard in your new tab page. This is the core functionality of the Extension.

Data Security

  • All processing happens locally in your browser
  • We do not maintain servers that store your data
  • The Extension code is open source and can be reviewed on GitHub
  • We follow Chrome Web Store security best practices

Children's Privacy

The Extension does not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The Extension is intended for general audiences.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. We will notify users of any material changes by updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy and posting the new policy on bookmarks-manager.online.
