Open Chrome's Bookmark Manager
Press Cmd+Shift+O on Mac or Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows/Linux/ChromeOS. Or click the three vertical dots in the top-right of Chrome → Bookmarks and Lists → Bookmark Manager.

Open the export menu
In the Bookmark Manager, click the three-dot menu (⋮) in the top-right corner, next to the search bar.

Click "Export Bookmarks"
Select Export Bookmarks from the menu. Chrome immediately generates the file - there's no dialog or confirmation step in between.

Choose where to save the file
Your system's save dialog opens. Chrome names the file bookmarks_<date>.html by default. Save it somewhere you'll find again - your Desktop or Downloads folder both work fine.
Using Brave, Edge, Vivaldi, or Opera? These are all built on Chromium, so the steps are nearly identical - look for “Bookmark Manager” and “Export Bookmarks” in the same three-dot menu.
What's next?
An export file by itself is just a backup - it doesn't make your bookmarks any easier to find. Does the export include my folders?
Yes. Folder structure is preserved as nested lists inside the HTML file, along with each bookmark's title, URL, and the date it was added.
Can I export bookmarks from Chrome on my phone?
No - Chrome for Android and iOS doesn't have a bookmark export feature. To get an export file, sign into the same Google account on a desktop copy of Chrome (your mobile bookmarks will have synced there) and export from desktop instead.
Will exporting delete or change my bookmarks?
No. Exporting only creates a copy - a snapshot of your library at that moment. Your actual bookmarks in Chrome are untouched.
